G.A. Whitehead and his wife, Joanna, are grateful to begin this new chapter of ministry at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church. G.A. has graduated from the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin and will be ordained to the diaconate on June 27.
G.A. and Joanna met ballroom dancing, and their shared life has taken them from Temple, Texas, to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where they lived for several years, and eventually to Austin for seminary. Before seminary, G.A. spent more than two decades working in medical laboratory science, a background that continues to shape his pastoral care and attention to healing, dignity, and presence.
G.A.’s sending parish is Christ Episcopal Church in Temple, Texas, where he served on the vestry, the search committee, and in many outreach programs. He completed his field education at St. Luke’s on the Lake in Austin and serves on the board of Honduras Good Works, supporting healthcare, education, and clean water initiatives in rural communities.
Joanna studied at Abilene Christian University and received her Doctor of Optometry degree from Inter American University School of Optometry. She is also a 3rd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
Their son, Aidan, is a rising eighth grader who enjoys Tae Kwon Do and has earned his black belt. G.A. and Aidan enjoy camping, fishing, and spending time outdoors, and G.A. also enjoys cooking as a hobby.
The Whiteheads are excited to become part of the Saint Stephen’s community and look forward to walking alongside the parish in faith, fellowship, and ministry.
